David Stokes is a British historical fiction author and Emeritus Professor at Kingston University. His Anglo-Saxon novels — Angles or Angels? (2019), King Alfred's Daughter (2023), and the forthcoming Sermon of the Wolf (Foreshore Books, October 2026) — bring history's dramatic reality to life, placing unsung historical figures at the centre of the epic story of how England was made. A graduate of Oriel College Oxford, he spent three decades in academia before returning to the early medieval world that first captivated him at university. He writes from a cabin in his garden in Guildford. His latest novel, King Alfred's Daughter, is a bestseller.
